The first thing to do is determine if you are the Duty Holder. A Duty Holder is any individual who is responsible for the management of a building or premises. You can easily check this with our quick and useful 'question & answer' button on our home page.
Once you have determined that you are the Duty Holder, you are required by Law to have already compiled an asbestos register and have a written management plan in place.
The Register will record if there is any asbestos in the premises (including outside areas), where and what type of asbestos, the amount and its condition.
The Management Plan will record what measures the Duty Holder has put in place to monitor and manage the asbestos e.g. annual re-inspection, what measures are in place should the asbestos become damaged etc.
A survey is required to locate, identify and report on the condition of any asbestos that may be present in the premises. The survey is the basis for compiling the Register and producing the management plan.
